The MotoGP Grand Prix of Portugal takes place at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 November 2026, as the penultimate round of the season. MotoGP has also confirmed that Portimão stays on the calendar until 2029.
The race weekend
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is a rollercoaster of a track, built into the hills above Portimão, with blind crests and steep drops that riders and fans love. Friday and Saturday bring practice, qualifying and the Sprint; Sunday is the main race day for MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. As a late-season round, it can play a part in the championship fight.
Race tickets are sold by the circuit and are not included in our tours.
How to get there from Lisbon
Portimão is about 280 km from Lisbon, around 2h45 on the motorway. Most fans stay in the Algarve for the weekend, so the trip south is a one-way journey, and that is exactly where a private driver adds value: instead of three hours of motorway, you can turn the drive into part of the holiday.
Our Lisbon to Algarve private tour takes you from your Lisbon hotel to your Algarve hotel or villa, with stops of your choice on the way. The price is per vehicle, not per person: 315€ for up to 3 guests in an estate car, 631€ for up to 7 in a van.
Suggested routes south
- The coast: the Arrábida Natural Park and its viewpoints, then the wild cliffs of the Costa Vicentina, with lunch by the Atlantic.
- History and wine: Évora, with its Roman temple and Chapel of Bones, then an Alentejo wine estate before continuing south.
- Short and simple: one stop for lunch in the Alentejo and straight on to your hotel, ideal if you arrive on Thursday evening.
Good to know
- Hotels near Portimão, Lagos and Alvor fill up quickly for race weekend. Book accommodation first.
- November weather in the Algarve is usually mild, but the circuit is exposed. Bring a waterproof layer.
