Explore the 'District of Discoveries.' From the intricate stone carvings of the Jerónimos Monastery to the defensive beauty of the Belém Tower, this tour focuses on the golden era of Portuguese history — complete with a stop for the city's most famous traditional sweets.
About this tour
Belém is where Portugal's navigators set sail in the 15th and 16th centuries, and where the wealth of those voyages was turned into some of the finest monuments in Europe. It is the perfect half day for anyone short on time who wants the essential Lisbon story.
The monuments are spread along the waterfront, separated by busy roads and railway lines. Your driver takes you between them, so you spend your time admiring the Manueline stonework of Jerónimos and the riverside fortress of Belém Tower, not crossing car parks. And, of course, there is a stop for the original pastéis de Belém.
