About this tour
North of Lisbon, the Atlantic coast turns wild: high cliffs, huge beaches and some of the most powerful waves on the planet. This full day takes you to Nazaré, the fishing town made world-famous by big-wave surfing, and to the rugged peninsula of Peniche and the island-like village of Baleal.
You stand at the lighthouse above Praia do Norte, where an underwater canyon funnels the ocean into giant waves, look down over Nazaré from the clifftop quarter of Sítio, and eat fresh fish by the sea. In the afternoon, the fortress and rock formations of Peniche and the beaches of Baleal complete the day.

Frequently asked questions
Is this tour private?
Yes. Every Black Key tour is private: the vehicle and driver are reserved for your group only, and you never share with strangers.
When can we see the giant waves in Nazaré?
The biggest waves usually come between October and March, on days with large Atlantic swells. They depend on the forecast, so they cannot be booked in advance, but the lighthouse and cliffs are spectacular all year.
Can we add Óbidos?
Yes. The walled medieval town of Óbidos is on the way back to Lisbon and makes a lovely final stop. Ask us to include it.
Is there a lot of walking?
Moderate. There are short walks at each stop, and the path down to the Nazaré lighthouse is steep in places. Your driver takes you between all the stops.
Is a guide included?
The tour includes your private driver. A certified guide is optional and costs +120€ per group. Guides bring the history and stories behind each stop, and are available in several languages on request.
